Favourites
Favourite Race Venue: Bryn Bach Park – the course is evenly matched between the disciplines, plus it’s in Wales and is always sunny ![]()
Favourite Training Session: Something like 6x1km race pace off a hard chaingang for pure pain (and a great sense of satisfaction when you’ve finished!)
Sporting Hero: Jens Voigt – he smashes himself the whole time for his team, one of my favourite Tour de France moments was when him and Cancellara knocked Valverde out of the 2008 race by blowing him away in what was effectively a CSC team time trial for 50km along a valley.
Favourite Films: Easy – Lord of the Rings trilogy, although there were several good ones in 2010 (Inception, Avatar, Shutter Island)
Favourite Food: Lasagne or BBQ chicken with cheese and bacon
If I won £10m: I’d build a massive sports centre with a pool, gym, track and velodrome at altitude and somewhere warm, so it’d be the perfect place to train!
About me Current Status: I am in the 3rd year of my (5 year) degree and am currently midway through a year-long placement at Chevron Pembroke Refinery. 2010 was a mixed year – I started off with some of my best, and most consistent, performances ever (at the duathlons, BUCS & Blenheim) before my season rather tailed off after I started my placement and I found it difficult to manage the training and work balance (welcome to the real world!) However, I have now managed to find the balance and will hopefully be able to put in some good performances this year with the emphasis on challenging myself in new types and distances of races and finding a race formula that works for me from the taper right up until the start line.
